Somerset Road Safety targets for the period 2011-2020 have been set as follows:
The baseline average used in the targets is the average for the years 2005-2009
• KSI casualties to be reduced by 33% from the baseline average
• Child KSI casualties to be reduced by 50% from the baseline average
• KSI casualties in the 16 – 24 years age group to be reduced by 20% from the baseline average
• 20% reduction from the baseline average figure in the number of vulnerable casualties (defined as pedestrians, pedal cyclists and powered two wheeler users) killed or seriously injured
• The number of people aged 60 years or over killed or seriously injured to be reduced by 10% from the baseline average
Annual targets have been established to monitor the progress of casualty reduction in the required areas.

• There were 29 fatal casualties.
• 164 people were killed or seriously injured (KSI)
• There were 983 slight injuries
• 7 children were killed or seriously injured
• There were 44 KSI casualties in the 16-24 years age group
• 37 people in the 60+ age group were killed or seriously injured
• Car users accounted for 48% of all KSI casualties
• There were 39 KSI casualties in the powered two wheeler category
• 27 pedestrians were killed or seriously injured
• There were 95 pedal cyclists injured, of these 18 were fatal or serious
