Campaigns

We work on a wide range of initiatives with our partner organisations as part of our casualty reduction programme.

Somerset Road Safety supports the national THINK! campaign and uses its themed promotions as an opportunity to draw attention to specific local road safety issues within the county.

National campaigns focus on:

  • Drink driving
  • Urban Speed / Rural Speed
  • Use of mobile phones in a vehicle
  • Motorcycling safety
  • Seat belts
  • Driving to Work / Young Drivers
  • Children / Teenagers

These campaigns are supported with:

  • Posters highlighting where drink related crashes are happening within Somerset
  • Major route initiatives involving a combination of engineering schemes, driver/rider awareness and, as a last resort, camera enforcement
  • Publicity and roadside initiatives highlighting the dangers of using mobile phone while driving
  • Motorcycle rider assessment days and promotion of rider training
  • Special events giving advice on choosing and fitting child safety seats
  • Road safety tuition in schools covering cycle, pedestrian training and life skills sessions preparing teenagers when they become young riders and drivers.

All initiatives are driven by casualty data obtained on Routes, Urban Safety Studies and Road User Groups.

Somerset Road Safety uses a wide range of media to get across its road safety messages in co-ordinated publicity campaigns including bus back advertisments, washroom and motorway service station posters radio advertising and articles in newspapers and specialist magazines.

By linking in with national initiatives, Somerset Road Safety's campaigns can provide a local perspective on the casualty problem, whether young car drivers, drink drive, speed, motorcyclists or child safety.
